"Government answers cement demand".

Engineer Takel Uma

#Ethiopia Minister of Mines Inner Takele Uma said that the federal government will understand the lack of cement and will respond accordingly.

Engineer Takele said that the demand for cement is increasing due to the growing production of Ethiopia's national package.

He said that by helping the cement factories that were built in the short term and are not producing to their capacity to achieve their plans, to help the factories that are in production with expansion projects such as Derba, Dangote and other projects and to install large cement factories at the national level, he said.

"If it were to keep pace with our economic growth, one person would need 500 kg of cement per capita. We are using (and not delivering it) only 29 kg." Engineer Takele said that in the next 10 years, the demand for construction materials will double as the economy grows, cities are built, and rural areas are transformed into cities.

"The federal government and regional projects are facing a shortage of cement. The private sector is not getting cement. There is a large demand for cement for road and house construction. To meet that demand, it is necessary to increase cement factories and build second and third production lines. We are also bringing in large cement companies." The minister said that the government will respond to the demand for cement in the next 3-5 years.

"I can tell you with certainty. We have temporary things. These temporary things will be solved over time. However, the government is committed to solving the cement shortage. It will do this by working together with the private sector." He said.
