Bottled water manufacturers stopped producing blue plastic bottles

Domestic bottled water manufacturers have abandoned the old blue plastic bottles and started packaging water in white (colorless) plastic bottles.

For many years, the manufacturers have been packaging with blue colored plastic bottles, but according to the research conducted by the Food and Beverage Industry Research and Development Center, it was decided not to use bottle dye masterbatch because it affects the environment of plastic bottle dyeing and is not suitable for reuse as a resource and causes unnecessary foreign currency expenditure.

Ashenafi Merd, General Manager of the Ethiopian Beverages Manufacturers Association, told the Ethio Trade and Investment Forum that the decision was made after the study was conducted for about a year, because plastic bottle dyeing and white bottled water will reduce the impact on the environment and help save foreign currency.

Ashenafi said that bottled water manufacturers accepted the decision and started producing white (colorless) plastic bottles from October 1, 2015.

It will be remembered that we have reported that water producers are facing difficulties due to the shortage and price of various inputs.
