The Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia urged that the business community should fulfill its responsibility of providing healthy and quality products.

Organized by Oromia Islamic Affairs Office, a symposium organized under the theme "Strong Halal Control System for Better Health and Economic Development" was held today.

The symposium mainly focused on the quality of meat products, especially for Arab countries, based on Islamic law.

According to Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, president of the Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs, who attended the symposium, it is the principle of all religions to provide healthy products to the society.

He pointed out that healthy and quality products contribute to the country's economy.

In this regard, he called on the business community to play its part in the Ethiopian economy by providing healthy and quality products.

Dr. Hamid Jamal, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Agriculture Authority, said that Ethiopia has the capacity to supply more than 200 tons of meat to the world market every year.

However, he pointed out that due to gaps in product quality and the inability to promote the product as required, the export of meat is not more than 22 thousand tons.

Therefore, the stakeholders in the sector should work together to make Ethiopia use its potential in meat production, ESA reported.

Representatives of the business community, experts and associations participated in the symposium.
