Peace Minister Ato Bnalf Andualem said that the international community should balance humanitarian and development aid in the spirit of "sharing responsibility and burden".

 

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the East African Community (EAC) held a ministerial conference on refugees in Kampala, Uganda today.

 

Ministers of East African countries, senior leaders, immigration experts, representatives of international institutions and development partners attended the two-day conference.

 

A delegation headed by the Minister of Peace Mr. Banalf Andualem participated in the conference representing Ethiopia.

 

East African countries presented the work they are doing regarding the issue of refugees in the region to the conference.

 

Ato Bnalf stated that Ethiopia is in the process of designing and implementing various policies and programs that will bring lasting solutions to refugees.

 

He also pointed out that it is necessary to focus on the peace building process in order to tailor a lasting solution to the problems that are the cause of displacement.

 

The information we received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs indicates that the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Esgenet Zabeh, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the Refugees and Returnees Service participated in the conference.
