In the agricultural sector, four projects have been designed and implemented since 2014

He stated that the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute has designed and implemented four projects related to seed production and marketing over the past nine years.

The projects are direct seed marketing system, international seed multiplication of cooperative societies, agricultural resource supply and service center and institutional support of Ethiopian seed system.

The direct seed marketing system aims to create a system where seed producers use their own agents to supply seeds to farmers and to enable farmers to be provided with certified quality seeds at the right time, in the required quantity and type.

The project started in 2002 in two districts and was implemented in 320 districts in 2012/13, Dr. Yitbarek Semane, Project Coordinator of the Institute of Ethiopian Racial System, told Fana Broadcasting Corporation.

They also stated that an implementation guide has been drawn up for the procedure and is being implemented in a regular manner.

The coordinator also pointed out that the aim of the Cooperatives International Seed Multiplication Project is to help cooperatives and unions to engage in seed production and marketing and continue sustainably.

The project has established 14 associations in four regions, and the associations have been able to meet the region's needs for 52% of the best seeds in Tigray, 30% in the South, 20% in Amhara and 10% in Oromia.

He said that starting from the year 2022, a nationwide seed multiplication project of private and cooperative societies is being designed and implemented.

They also mentioned that the expansion project of agricultural input supply and service centers has been underway since 2011 to establish the centers in 300 agricultural commercialization districts, and to expand and implement experiences.

The aim of the project is to make all agricultural inputs (seeds, agrochemicals, veterinary medicine, fodder, farm tools) accessible to the user in one center in a manner based on professional advice in terms of quality, required quantity, time and reasonable price.

The coordinator mentioned that 201 centers have been established in Oromia, Amara, Tigray and Southern regions and are benefiting 3.8 million farmers.

He said that efforts are being made to implement the implementation guidelines in a regular manner.
