In the 2015 fiscal year, a budget of 3.2 billion birr was allocated for the launch of 16 new irrigation projects.
Addis Ababa: The Ministry of Irrigation and Lowland Environment announced that 16 new irrigation projects will be launched in the 2015 fiscal year and that a budget of 3.2 billion birr has been allocated for the launch of the projects.
15.16 billion birr has been allocated to the ministry for the 2015 fiscal year, 11 billion birr has been allocated from the government for capital budget of projects and 532 million birr for regular budget and 3.63 billion birr has been allocated from aid and loans.
Irrigation and Lowland Areas Minister Engineer Aisha Mohammed stated that the lack of capacity of contractors and the problem of supply of resources and rising prices are the problems faced in the 2014 fiscal year.
He mentioned that extensive efforts have been made to provide resources for irrigation projects. He said that work has been done to establish drought-affected areas with 19 million dollars.
It has been announced that 16 new irrigation projects will be launched in the 2015 fiscal year, of which 10 are construction projects and 6 are research and design projects.
It is said that 3.2 billion birr has been budgeted for the projects and the remaining 7.8 billion birr is the budget of existing projects.
