Integrated watershed development activities are being carried out in the summer months of the kebele according to the plan prepared with open public participation. 

 

Ms. Fozia Musa Mohammed and Ato Ibsa Abla Mohammed, residents of Elhamer Kebele, were found participating in the watershed development activities with other residents of the kebele on a hill called Balaadi, which has been damaged by natural disasters. 

 

According to the residents, the watershed development activities carried out in the past have not only improved the appearance of their area, but also contributed to increasing the production and productivity of their agricultural activities. 

 

Therefore, based on the results they have obtained, they have stated that they are actively participating in the watershed development activities being carried out this year. 

 

Ato Girma Gizaw, who met with us to support and coordinate the watershed development work, said that the integrated watershed development works are being carried out in the summer months of the kebele according to the plan prepared with open public participation. 

 

Stating that the works are being carried out in sections, Ato Girma explained that soil and water conservation works are being carried out in the field so far, including stone quarrying, joint leveling, stone and soil leveling works. 

 

He also explained that the works related to the Green Legacy Program include the construction of micro-tunnels and the excavation of an improved well for the Chewewegen. 

 

The coordinator added that the works being carried out in the fields, such as field terrace maintenance, manure transfer to the fields, and spring development related to irrigation, pond and water canal silting activities, are being carried out according to their plans, and the overall work has been completed by 50 to 96 percent so far. 

 

Kebele Deputy Chairman Ato Musa Abdella pointed out that in addition to soil and water conservation, health, education, and welfare works are being carried out by involving the residents in the watershed development work.
