The Council of Ministers passed a decision on two issues

Addis Ababa, August 13, 2014 (FBC) The Council of Ministers discussed two issues in its 12th regular meeting today and passed a decision.

The council discussed the decree to determine the relationship between agricultural producers and farmers and the draft decree on plant seeds.

With this, the council discussed the draft decrees and unanimously decided to forward them to the House of People's Representatives for approval by adding resources.

It has been suggested that the bill be prepared based on the transfer of knowledge, skills and technology to increase production and productivity so that agricultural products can be widely produced through contracts with producers.

In addition, it has been observed that the relationship between the manufacturer and the manufacturer will be governed by a complete legal framework through which market linkages will be created.

Based on this, the bill was prepared and presented to the Council of Ministers for the purpose of enacting a law to ensure the benefit of the producers at a higher level.

It is also stated that the Plant Seed Proclamation in force (Proclamation No. 782/2005) has gaps when compared to the multifaceted agricultural achievements that Ethiopia is making in the agricultural sector.

It is suggested that the improvement of the decree is necessary to modernize the country's plant seed industry, to increase the participation of the private sector by attracting technology and investment, so that the supply of plant seeds can be produced in a sustainable manner in terms of the quality, type and quantity of the agricultural sector.

In order to increase the supply of resources for the growing agro-industries, to establish a backup plant seed management system and to meet the related enabling conditions, it has been pointed out that the amendment of the decree is necessary.
