MESSAGE OF PRIME MINISTER ABIY AHIMED:

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has today released a letter addressed specifically to the people of Tigray and Tigrayan intellectuals.

In his lengthy statement titled "Advice to the People of Tigray and Intellectuals," the Prime Minister reiterated his previous remarks, stating that the land and people of Tigray are the foundation of civilization and the backbone of the nation. Furthermore, he emphasized that Tigray is home to many intellectuals, religious leaders, politicians, and elders who have greatly contributed to the country.

Dr. Abiy noted in his statement that, unfortunately, over the past century, due to various circumstances and reasons—particularly conflicts with the central government—Tigray has become a battleground, and its people have borne the brunt of war.

He stressed that regardless of the reasons, a critical question must be raised: What social, political, economic, and security benefits have the wars of the past 100 years brought to the people of Tigray? He urged that this question be asked and answered honestly. The Prime Minister added that at this moment, every conscientious Tigrayan intellectual must ask whether Tigray and its people have gained or lost more from these wars. He also emphasized the need to question whether war was the only solution and to explore what must be done to avoid similar conflicts in the future.

The Prime Minister further lamented that the people of Tigray, still bearing the scars of yesterday’s wounds, have not yet found peace, stability, or recovery. Instead, they remain trapped in fear, consumed by the specter of war. He stated that it is imperative to calmly discuss how to avert such dangers in the future.

Therefore, Dr. Abiy called on Tigrayan intellectuals working in politics, business, security, academia, media, and other fields, as well as the entire Tigrayan population, to recognize that the price paid by the people of Tigray is enough and that there is no gain from war. He urged them to first address internal divisions through dialogue and resolve issues in a manner that ensures the unity of the Tigrayan people.

Additionally, he conveyed his readiness to resolve differences with the federal government and other forces in accordance with the country’s constitution and through democratic means.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister expressed his wishes for peace for the people of Tigray, stating that lamentation and war must end, and delivered his message.
