At least 66 people died in a fire in a hotel in the northwestern Turkish province of Bolu

 

#Ethiopia At least 66 people were killed and 55 injured in a fire in a hotel in northwestern Turkey's Bolu province, Al Jazeera reported, citing provincial officials.

 

"We lost the lives of 66 of our citizens in the accident. We are deeply saddened," Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told reporters.

 

The country's health minister, Kemal Memisoglu, said that at least one of the victims was in critical condition.

 

The country's Minister of Justice, Yilmaz Tunk, has announced that four people, including the owner of the hotel, have been arrested in connection with the accident and an investigation has begun by the Office of the Chief Prosecutor.

 

Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin said the fire broke out on the 4th floor of the 11-storey hotel at about 9:30 p.m. He added that the 4th floor is the restaurant of the hotel.

 

They mentioned that two of the people who died in the accident died after jumping out of the building.

 

Manager Abdulaziz Aydin told Anadolu news agency that 234 guests were in the hotel when the fire broke out.

 

Images of the incident show the roof and upper floors of the building engulfed in flames.

 

The media reported that the hotel's alarm system was out of order at the time, citing eyewitnesses.

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said government institutions are working to investigate the cause of the accident.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its grief over the loss of lives and injuries in a fire at a hotel in Turkey's Bolu province.

 

Expressing his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the minister wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.

 

The ministry announced in a condolence statement on its social media page that the federal government will stand by the government and people of Turkey in this difficult time.
