Previous peace agreement has helped create peace and stability in Somali Region - ONLF

The ONLF has announced that the previous peace agreement between the Ethiopian government and the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has helped create peace and stability in the Somali Region.

The ONLF has stated that the statement issued in Nairobi does not represent the organization at all.

The members of the ONLF’s council have stated that the peace agreement reached between the Ethiopian government and the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has put an end to the long-standing conflict in the region.

According to the Secretary of the ONLF Central Council, Ahmed Abdullahi Sheikh Abdi; the peace agreement has enabled the ONLF to operate peacefully by opening offices in various zones and districts in the Somali Region.

He also mentioned that the agreement allowed the Somali regional state and members of the Front to freely enter their country and region following the agreement.

He stated that the statement issued on behalf of the ONLF, claiming that the Ethiopian government had violated the agreement, does not represent the organization at all.

He noted that the incorrect statement issued by certain individuals did not follow the legal process of the Front, and called on all supporters of the Front and Somali regional state residents to understand that the statement was incorrect and strengthen their support for the unity of the Front.

On his part, ONLF Central Council Member Ahmed Yasin Sheikh Ibrahim stated that; the peace agreement has eased the tension in the region and provided relief to the residents.

He indicated that the agreement has enabled ONLF supporters to carry out a peaceful political struggle; and explained that the entire people of the region have benefited from peace and development.

They also stressed that the recent statement issued from Nairobi on behalf of the front regarding the agreement is completely unacceptable and does not represent the ONLF.

They urged the public not to be confused by the false statements made by certain individuals regarding the ONLF and for the individuals to refrain from their actions, EZA reported.

It is recalled that the Ethiopian government and the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) signed a peace agreement in Asmara in 2018.
