Today, Addis Ababa city administration has inaugurated and launched the only rehabilitation center for juveniles involved in criminal matters in our country.

 

The center was built to replace an older and dilapidated center and has 17 blocks of male and female dormitories; Contains training workshops that enable inmates to become productive citizens; Assembly halls with library and counseling rooms; Physical construction consisting of a green park; It is a center built to have standard sports facilities and an urban agriculture workshop where you can practice production.

 

Speaking at the program, Mayor Adanech said that the rehabilitation and rehabilitation center for children and juvenile offenders that we are inaugurating today is the first in our country and it is a center that meets international standards.

 

Mayor Adanech added that this center is one of the works that the city administration is doing with special attention to building the next generation. He also stated that it is possible to produce citizens who will survive for the country by strengthening universal personality building activities.

 

According to Mayor Adanech Abebe, the main purpose of this center is to ensure that juveniles who are involved in criminal matters and are held accountable by law, receive comprehensive rehabilitation services in isolation instead of staying with adults in regular prisons.

 

He said that the center used to provide services to only about 150 young children, but after this, it will provide up to seven hundred (700) services.

When young people aged 9-15 are found to be involved in criminal activities and are held responsible by court order, it provides universal services to the citizens of tomorrow who are responsible for tomorrow's country, said Mrs. Genet Ktatu, Head of the Social Bureau for Women and Children.

 

Engineer Ayalnesh, head of the Addis Ababa City Design and Construction Office, said that the construction was able to be completed quickly, especially in 4 months, and that it was enough to overcome the existing problems.
