The Ethiopian Space Science and Geospatial Institute has donated wood and metal forming machines developed by its researchers to five regions.
The machines were made by the institute’s experts and were self-made, said Abdisa Yilma, the institute’s director general, during the handover.
Five plasma and router CNC machines made by the institute were delivered to Amhara, Tigray, Sidama, Afar and Benishangul Gumuz regions.
He explained that the machines are used to make shapes on metal and wood; he also said that they will be used to create job opportunities for youth in the regions.
He urged citizens who use the machines to create thousands of job opportunities by developing and replicating the technology.
Representatives of the regions, for their part, stated that the institute not only handed over the machines but also provided them with training on their use, EZA reported.
