Ethiopian Federal Police Investigates Causes of 103 Fires and Announces Results

 

#Ethiopia | The Ethiopian Federal Police has conducted a forensic investigation into the causes of 103 fires that occurred in Addis Ababa and other parts of the country in the first six months of 2017 and announced the results.

 

The Forensic Investigation Department of the Ethiopian Federal Police, in accordance with the authority granted by the proclamation, has presented the results of the forensic investigation conducted by investigating the causes of fires from all parts of the country using modern laboratory equipment.

 

1. 50 fires caused by electrical problems;

2. 11 fires caused by mechanical problems;

3. 10 fires caused by deliberate human action,

4. 17 due to negligence, and

5. 15 due to other causes.

 

In the past six months, 96 fires have occurred in Addis Ababa city alone and seven in the regions, totaling 103 fires nationwide, and the causes of the fires have been investigated.

 

In this regard, the Ethiopian Federal Police said that it was able to verify through forensic investigation that the cause of the fire that occurred in the Shema Tera shopping center and its surroundings in Addis Ababa Sub-city on the evening of October 11, 2017 was an electrical fault.

 

The Ethiopian Federal Police has issued a six-month report on the damage caused by fires in 582 homes, 12 vehicles, 1965 businesses, six factories, and various organizations in the first half of the year.

 

The Ethiopian Federal Police calls on the public to fulfill their civic responsibility to ensure justice, recognizing that after a fire occurs, the evidence must be preserved and reported to the police. It also recognizes that commenting and making judgments until the causes of the fire have been confirmed through professional investigation will distort justice.
