Yewef Gojo Episode 42 - Kana TV Drama.

It has been stated that the number of citizens pledging to donate their corneas after death to treat blindness caused by corneal scarring is increasing.
However, despite the growing number of donors, it has been said that the lack of medical resources and professionals in the field has prevented much progress from being made.
It was noted that previous efforts were not at the desired level; however, improvements have reportedly been observed, especially after the institution was re-established as the Ethiopian Blood and Tissue Bank.
Mr. Alemayehu Tarakegn, the Public Relations and Communication Executive of the Ethiopian Blood and Tissue Bank, stated that the number of people pledging to donate their corneas has increased following consultations with religious leaders and other community representatives.
Mr. Alemayehu explained that although corneas are obtained through donations, the scarcity of resources and professionals performing surgeries in the field has hindered much work from being done. He added that the number of doctors providing treatment is very small, with the current number of professionals not exceeding 12.
It has been said that efforts have begun this year to open eye banks outside of Addis Ababa and provide services in the regions as well. This is expected to expand the service, which was previously centralized in one location, making it accessible to more people.
Efforts are reportedly underway to address the shortage of medical resources and to train professionals.
The target was to have 300 people pledge to donate their corneas after death, but it has been reported that over the past six months, 500 people have made the pledge, exceeding the plan.
Last year alone, we heard that more than 200 people who had lost their eyesight due to corneal scarring regained their vision through corneal transplants.
