New Special Cross-Country Buses Pre-deployment Visited;

Addis Ababa, August 11, 2014: Ministers of State of the Ministry of Transport and Logistics visited the buses ready for the soon-to-be-started cross-country transport service of the Public Service Transport Service, which is an accountable institution of the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.

During the visit, the General Director of Public Transport Services, Ms. Frehiwot, explained the preparation of the special cross-country buses that are ready for deployment. He said that in order to enable our people to get the services they deserve, we have imported modern buses from Bischoff Automotive Industry and completed our preparations to start cross-country services. He explained that the vehicles are modern and made in consideration of the landscape of our country and explained that the bus captains have been trained to enable them to drive efficiently. He pointed out that regional transport and logistics offices are working together to prepare a convenient place for the special buses, which are national assets, to stop, and they will provide efficient and qualified services from the new year of 2015.

It has been pointed out that the special buses are designed to increase the comfort of the passengers and are equipped with the latest technology. It is stated that there are special buses designed for the comfort of our disabled citizens, equipped with mobile phone chargers behind each passenger seat, large areas for loading items, televisions where passengers can watch various entertainment and information events, toilets, and other technologies.

Honorable State Ministers visited the interior and exterior of the special buses and observed the readiness of the vehicles. The Minister of State for Logistics, Honorable Ato Denge Boru, in his comments after the visit, stated that he observed the practical activities of the Public Transport Service to serve the society by following the modern system. He said that the quality award-winning public transport service is in a position to provide efficient service to our citizens who use cross-country buses while maintaining their comfort and safety.

On his part, the Minister of State for Transport, Mr. Baro Hasan, mentioned that the special buses are helpful in reducing road traffic accidents as they are convenient for driving in a safe manner. He mentioned that the ability of drivers to provide information to the center before an accident occurs when they are in a dangerous situation is a sign of the modernity of the special buses and added that new technologies are helpful in preventing traffic accidents. He stated that the provision of capacity building training to enable drivers to adapt to the modern vehicles shows the efforts of the Public Transport Service to prevent any accidents.

Apart from this, honorable Ministers of State visited various activities of the Public Transport Service. Public transport service
