What is cervical cancer? ABC had a cyber interview with Dr. Ezekiel Petros, an obstetrician and embryologist and a community health expert. 

 

According to Dr. Ezekiel's explanation, cervical cancer is the proliferation of abnormal cells in the uterus. 

 

He said that cancer is a disease that occurs when cells in our body begin to multiply and grow out of control and spread to other parts of our body.

 

The disease is the second most common type of cancer in women after breast cancer.

 

Dr. Ezekiel explains that cervical cancer is caused by a microorganism called "human papilloma virus".  

 

Most people infected with the virus do not know they are infected and can live for 10 to 20 years without symptoms.

 

Dr. Hezekiel explained that the root cause of the disease is starting sexual relations at a young age, having sex with many men, having sex with a man who has sex with many women, contracting venereal disease, weakening the body's immune system and other related factors.

 

Symptoms: 

• Abnormal bleeding

• Back, hip and hip pain, fatigue

• Decreased appetite 

• The specialist raised the possibility of seeing symptoms such as pink, brown or blood-colored, smelly discharge from the female genitalia.

 

The doctor explains that cervical cancer can be prevented by vaccination.

• Abstinence from sexual intercourse at an early age;
