Addis Ababa, a delegation led by the Head of the Amhara Region, Yelkal Kefale, visited Lema's wheat field in Kuta, Moret and Jiru District, North Showa Zone.

 

The government officials of the region, including the head of state, Yalkal Kefalen, visited the cultivated wheat field on 1 thousand 379 hectares in Gerba Kebele of the district.

 

In the district, 11 thousand 375 hectares have been cultivated in Kuta, of which 500 thousand quintals are expected to be produced.

 

As the head of government Lalaal said during the visit, the harvest and hard work of the farmers is an indication that we can be self-sufficient in food and we can supply wheat to the foreign market.

 

He also stated that this result was obtained by subsidizing the purchase of fertilizers to the farmers.

 

After this, begging for wheat has become a thing of the past, said the head of government.

 

During the current season in the North Showa zone, more than 146 thousand hectares were covered with wheat crops, of which 54 thousand hectares were cultivated with wheat, according to the head of the agriculture department of the zone, Warkalmahu Kostre.

 

It was also raised that 2.5 million quintals of wheat production is expected from the cluster.

 

Haile Mariam Kefale, head of the Amhara Regional Agriculture Bureau, said that 40 million quintals of wheat, including irrigated wheat, are expected to be produced in the region this fiscal year.
