"The media should support Ethiopia's journey to the top" - Dr. Leges Tulu

Minister of Government Communication Services, Dr. Leges Tulu urged that Ethiopia's journey to the top should be supported by the regional media.

 

Benishangul Gumuz TV was officially launched today.

 

According to the minister at the time, the regional media in the country have contributed a lot in bringing the people closer together.

 

The minister said that Ethiopia has come out of the challenge and is starting to rise. Regional media should support this process by reading each other's stories.

 

He said that the ministry will provide the necessary support for Benishangul Gumuz TV's efforts to deliver information to the public.

 

The head of Oromia region, Ato Shimelis Abdisa, said that the natural resources of Benishangul Gumuz region can change Ethiopia.

 

Apart from helping to develop this wealth, the media should work to strengthen the unity of the people, he said.

 

The head of government said that the people of Benishangul Gumuz and Oromia are brothers and said that the leaders of the regions are expected to continue this.

 

Mr. Shimelis, who says that Ethiopia will not be strong if all ethnic groups do not benefit equally, said that for this reason, we must move away from the mindset of only me and build up with our mindset that benefits the majority.

 

Head of Benishangul Gumuz Region Mr. Ashadli Hassan said that the media has an irreplaceable role in nation building.

 

He explained that since the region has not established its own media, it has not been possible to carry out public relations work in promoting its culture and natural resources.

 

In particular, it has made us unable to prevent and correct the media-supported campaign launched by extremist groups to destabilize the region, Mr. Ashadli said.

 

"The fact that the region has its own television station is a double victory," the head of government said, adding that it is an indication of the growing capacity to implement large projects.

 

It has been suggested that the station will focus on issues that strengthen unity among people and build the social and economic potential of the region and the country, ESA reported.
