"Ethiopia does not accept positions that challenge the right of the future generation to cultivate the Nile water."

 - Ambassador Selshi Bekele

#Ethiopia The chief negotiator of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Ambassador Selshi Bekele (Dr.), made a statement today regarding the fourth round of negotiations with Egypt and Sudan regarding the water filling and construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

In his statement, the ambassador followed the direction given by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi in July 2015; He stated that four rounds of negotiations were held between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan.

The ambassador stated that the fourth round of tripartite negotiations was held in Addis Ababa from December 7 to 9, 2016, but it ended without a conclusion.

Although agreement was reached on several issues during the four rounds of negotiations; He said that it was not possible to agree on some key issues due to Egypt's unjust positions.

The chief negotiator stated that based on the Declaration of Principles agreement, the three countries should use the Nile water fairly, rationally and without significant harm to others.

On the contrary, Egypt, without changing its positions during the colonial era, has come up with ideas that undermine the right of the future generation of Ethiopia to develop, Ambassador Selshi said.

The information we received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that Ethiopia will not accept any approach that violates the right to develop the future generation.

They confirmed that Ethiopia is always ready to reach a negotiated agreement based on international cross-border laws and principles.
