Students who were injured in the accident at Hawassa University are receiving medical attention
Addis Ababa, September 30, The Ministry of Education announced that 12th grade students who were injured in the bridge collapse accident at Hawassa University are being treated at Hawassa Referral Hospital.
This morning, the 12th class students who were going to take exams at Hawassa University, the bridge that connects the two campuses of the university collapsed, causing injuries to some of the students who were crossing the bridge.
The Ministry of Education announced that the injured students are being treated at Hawassa Referral Hospital.
The entire Hawassa University and Ministry of Education task force are closely monitoring their situation and the Ministry has asked parents not to panic.
The ministry also requested that the students who were injured will be tested in the next exam and that other students should remain calm and take the test without being disturbed by the incident.
The Deputy Governor of Sidama Region and Head of the Education Office of the Region, Mr. Yeine Berasa, said that the accident occurred at one o'clock in the morning when too many students climbed on the bridge, which caused the bridge to exceed its carrying capacity.
He explained that few students were injured in the accident.
The official said that there was no danger of death and that the students were given immediate support.
Shocked by the sudden accident, the students who left the campus called on them to return on time and take the exam.
He emphasized that the people should protect themselves from problems that make people unstable by exaggerating the issue in different ways.
