Minister of Culture and Sports, Kejela Merdassa, said the construction cost of the national stadium will be improved.

 

The construction of the Addis Ababa National Stadium (Addis Ababa Stadium) is being carried out by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

 

Construction of the first phase of the stadium, which has a capacity of 62,000 people, began in December 2012 and was completed at a cost of 2.4 billion birr.

 

The construction of the second phase was planned to be completed in two years and six months at a cost of 5.57 billion birr.

 

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Kejela Merdasa, said the main reason for the delay was due to problems with the payment system and the occurrence of cholera.

 

He also called on the contractor (Chinese State Construction) to improve the price of the stadium.

 

He said the government is ready to make improvements in the wake of global and domestic imports, but the contractor's request has been exaggerated.

 

He said the construction process is underway and the negotiations are underway, noting that no agreement has been reached yet.

 

The second phase includes roofing, chair installation, artificial lake construction, modern security camera installation, sound system installation, parking spaces, players' training ground and more.
