"In order for sustainable cross-border cooperation to be realized, a legal framework is needed to govern all Nile member states" - Dr. Engineer Habtamu Itefa

**************************

The Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. Engineer Habtamu Itefa, stated that a legal framework is needed for all Nile member countries to be governed and governed in order to realize sustainable cross-border cooperation.

As the minister said at the 30th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Nile Countries, which is being held in Tanzania, there has been a joint effort to build the cooperation of the countries along the river basin on a strong legal basis for more than two decades.

With this, four Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) member states have approved the Cooperation Framework (CFA) as national law.

He emphasized that in order to increase the number of countries that have approved the cooperation framework, it is necessary to move the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to the target level of commission.

Dr. Engineer Habtamu, who stated that the process of approving the cooperation framework is not something that should be given time, pointed out that there are strategic and transitional issues that the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) cannot implement as a transitional framework.

ESA reported that the Ministry of Water and Energy stated that the approval of the cooperation framework is fundamental to achieving the development and management of the Nile Basin.

It is known that the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) was established as a transitional framework based on the common vision of nine founding member states and to serve as a transitional framework until the establishment of a permanent Nile River Basin Commission.

The 25th meeting of the Nile Equatorial Lakes Council is being held alongside the 30th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Nile countries.
