What is gout?
One of the diseases that occur during the holidays is gout, which is caused by our diet during the holidays. Although the disease is mostly observed in connection with the coming of holidays, it can also occur on the day of fasting.
Health experts say that gout is a type of disease that can happen to anyone and it occurs when the chemical called uric acid accumulates in the bone joints.
Gout is one of the most common types of arthritis and can cause significant pain.
Gout is characterized by sudden onset of severe pain, swelling, and itching around the joints, most commonly in the big toe.
The pain is sudden and often wakes you up at night, especially when your thumb feels like it's on fire.
Gout also has a tendency to go away once it starts, if we don't take preventive measures.
Causes of gout:
Gout occurs when a chemical called uric acid builds up in the joints. When uric acid accumulates in the joints, it causes inflammation and severe pain.
Health experts say that uric acid is produced when the body breaks down a substance called purine.
Purine is found naturally in our bodies and is also found in red meat and liver products.
Symptoms of gout:-
* Joint pain
*Inflammation of the joint area (warmth, redness and swelling in the area)
* Joint pain when moving (difficulty moving)
* Burning sensation in the joint area
* Coughs, fever and chills are the symptoms to mention
Risk factors for the disease:-
*Sex (males produce more uric acid, so the risk is higher in men)
Age (in women after menopause, uric acid production increases)
*Alcoholic drinks (they prevent uric acid from being removed from the body sufficiently
*Urine-rich diets (meat, eggs, chicken, fish...)
Ways to prevent gout:-
*Adjustment of diet (not eating or temporarily reducing foods with high uric content)
* Do not drink alcoholic beverages
* Controlling body weight
* Regular exercise
* Medical experts say that it is recommended to drink two to three liters of water a day.
Treatment of gout:-
There are two types of treatment for gout, one is to relieve the inflammation and pain caused by gout.
The second is to reduce the amount of uric acid in the blood and reduce the damage caused by gout, according to Mayo Clinic, which is known for health information at the international level.
