This year, more than 283 thousand tons of coffee is being marketed in Sidama region

 

Addis Ababa, November 2022: It has been announced that more than 283,000 tons of high-quality and washed coffee are being supplied to the central market in the current fiscal year in Sidama region.

 

As stated by the head of the regional government, Sadama Ledamo, efforts are being made to ensure the benefit of the farmers by expanding coffee fields and increasing productivity in the Sidama region.

 

He told ESA that 160,000 hectares of coffee plantations have been planted in the region and the activities being carried out to change the lives of farmers by planting better yielding varieties are encouraging.

 

Mesfen Kare, head of the regional agriculture and natural resources development office, said that 1.3 million quintals of coffee are expected to be harvested in the region this year.

 

He stated that 283 thousand tons of washed ground coffee and 40 thousand tons of dry coffee are being made available to the central market.

 

It is stated that farmers with more than two hectares of coffee fields will issue permits this year to take advantage of the opportunity given to them to sell directly to the foreign market.
