The Nigerian players were named the best African player of the year

The African (CAF) player of the year award was won by Nigerian forward Victor Osimhe, while his compatriot forward Asisat Oshoala was the star player in the women's category.

Victor Osimhen scored 26 goals and became the first African star to score in the league when Napoli won the Italian Serie A title (Scudetto) after 30 years.

Osimhen, who scored 10 goals in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, became the second Nigerian after Nwanku Kanu to win the African Player of the Year award. Kanu was selected as the star of the year in 1999.

Osimhen was named African Player of the Year after beating Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and PSG's Moroccan Achraf Hakimi.

The best coach of the year category was won by Desiree Ellis from South Africa for women and Waleed Regraghi for men from Morocco.
