The members of the Ethiopian Federal Lawyers Association Board appointed by the Prime Minister officially started their work

The members of the Ethiopian Federal Bar Association board appointed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have officially started their work.

The Minister of Justice, Dr. Gideon Timothy also attended the board's launch stage and delivered a message.

The management of lawyers is one of the sectors that have undergone legal reforms in the last two or three years, and a new Federal Lawyers Management Decree No. 1249/2013 has been issued and is being implemented.

The new decree stipulates that the Bar Association, the Ministry of Justice and the Bar Board will jointly manage the work until it is able to fully manage the Bar Association.

The decree established the Bar Association of which all federally licensed lawyers are members, and the association's executive officers, president and vice president of the association were elected in the general meeting held by lawyers and the association is carrying out its work.

On the other hand, the Board of Lawyers, which oversees the legality of the actions and decisions taken by the Bar Association, examines the decisions on the licensing and disciplinary matters of lawyers, and gives the final decision and other powers and duties, and is mostly represented by the members of the Bar Association, was established by Article 69 of the Decree, and the members of the Board are appointed by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has appointed the board members as per the rules.

Accordingly, the following were appointed as board members:

1. Ato Amalandte Agdeo (from the Ministry of Justice)... Chairman

2. Mr. Brother Buy (from Lawyers Association)……..Secretary

3. Ato Birhanu Amenu (from the Supreme Court) …..Member

4. Mr. Tamru Wurdmagene (from Bar Association)...Member

5. Mr. Abdella Ali (from the Bar Association)…..Member

6. Dr. Brock Haile (from Addis Ababa University) ... member

7. Ato Mehretu Kumleh (from the Ministry of Justice) is a member.

The Minister of Justice, Dr. Gideon Timothy, who was present at the launch of the board and delivered a message, said that the promulgation of the Lawyers Administration Proclamation and the implementation of the provisions stipulated in the promulgation, the executives and managers as well as the management board when the board was set up, the main goal was to lead the legal services with superior ethics and competence. He said that it is to enable it to become an association that is close to similar associations that are set as examples in other countries.
