I would rather buy my children a Renaissance Dam bond than a cake for their birthdays: Ms. Hanan Ahmed
***************
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam holds great promise for the future development of my country, says Ms. Hanan Ahmed, who has lived in Doha for 25 years.
Hanan says she believes that when the dam is fully operational, illegal immigration, currency shortages and similar problems will no longer exist in the country.
It is with this hope in mind that she has chosen to buy both of her children a Renaissance Dam bond instead of a cake for their birthdays for the past 13 years.
She says she is very happy that this has enabled her children to participate in the development of their country.
Her children, on the other hand, say that even though we live outside the country, we are grateful for the gift our parents have given us to be part of this story.
They also say that their parents’ gift has given them a sense of responsibility and belonging.
On the other hand, due to the government’s committed leadership, the support of residents in Doha and the surrounding area for the dam has been built on trust, says Ethiopia’s Special Envoy and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Yemen, Iran and Qatar, Faisal Ali.
He says that the transitional government’s efforts to address the fundamental gaps in the project have created trust and allowed public participation to continue to grow.
He added that the diaspora community should continue to strengthen its participation in such fundraising projects.
Ato Sintayehu Terefe, Head of the Ethiopian Community Office in Qatar and former Head of the Renaissance Dam Bond Sales, said that Ethiopians in Doha are making a great contribution to the dam.
They also stated that Ethiopians realized the importance of the dam to their country and the region, which enabled them to participate in a large scale.
