How to easily know the monthly electricity consumption bill?

***

Ethiopian Electricity Service currently has more than 3.32 million postpaid customers. Many of these customers are not aware of how to calculate their monthly electricity bill, and they complain that they have been charged an inflated bill.

However, the complaint is not due to customers being charged an inflated bill, but due to not using electricity properly and sparingly, and not having enough information on how to calculate the utility bill.

Therefore, postpaid customers can understand how many kWh they have used and how much they will pay for their monthly utility bill based on the energy level of the electrical appliances they use at home.

To make this easier to understand, let's put it in the following example:

• If a customer lights 4 60 watt light bulbs in his home for 6 hours a day for 30 days a month;

• If a toaster that uses 3000 watts of electricity is used for 2 hours a day for 10 days a month,

• If a stove that uses 1000 watts of electricity is used for 5 hours a day for 30 days a month,

And this individual is required to add up the electricity he used and convert it to kWh to find out how much kWh he used in a month, excluding other electrical appliances.

Accordingly

 4 bulbs x 60 watts x 6 hours x 30 days = 43,200 watt hours.

 3000 watt electric stove x 2 hours x 10 days = 60,000 watt hours.

 1000 watt oven x 5 hours x 30 days = 150,000 watt.h.

When all three are added together, it will be 43,200 watt-hours + 60,000 watt-hours + 150,000 watt-hours = 253,200 watt-hours. This should be converted to kilowatt hours.

Since 1 kilowatt hour = 1000 watt hours; 253,200 watt hours = 253.2 kilowatt hours.

Residential tariff calculation has 7 levels; A residential customer will be billed based on the monthly electricity consumption multiplied by the tariff tier.

According to this calculation, the customer mentioned in the above example has used 253.2 kWh of electricity per month, so he is directly on the 4th level; Therefore, it will be multiplied by 2.0000 Birr.

Accordingly, it comes to 253.2 kWh x 2.0000 Birr = 506.4 Birr.

When the service fee is added to Birr 42, in general, this customer's monthly bill will be 548 Birr and 4 cents.

Therefore, you can easily understand your monthly consumption by identifying the amount of energy used by the electrical appliances you use and by knowing the time of day they are used.

To save your money even more, use energy-saving electrical appliances at home; It is necessary to identify the time of use and use it when the power load is not high.
