The Second Internet Development Conference is currently underway.

The conference is focusing on discussions around the regulatory frameworks for internet infrastructure development within the member states of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in East Africa.

It has been noted that the internet is increasingly influencing sectors such as education, health, finance, and others. Therefore, East African countries need to collaborate to leverage this sector effectively.

In East Africa, there are challenges related to the lack of internet infrastructure and cybersecurity issues. On the other hand, the sector is growing over time, and it has been emphasized during the conference that regional countries should seize this opportunity to work together on development initiatives.

The Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, stated that the Ethiopian government has opened up the telecom sector to the private sector to further enhance its development.

The Second Internet Development Conference, which is currently taking place, is said to provide a great opportunity for experts and researchers in the field to engage in meaningful work.

We have learned that the conference will run from today until the 15th of Tir (an Ethiopian month).
