Work is underway to permanently register Lake Tana's monasteries, churches and natural resources with UNESCO

 

#Ethiopia | Work is underway to permanently register Lake Tana's monasteries, churches, natural and cultural heritage with UNESCO, according to the Amhara Regional State Tourism Bureau.

 

Lake Tana's monasteries, churches, natural and cultural heritage are temporarily inscribed on the World Heritage List by the United Nations Institute of Culture, Science and Education.

 

Deputy Head of the Amhara Regional State Tourism Bureau, Ermias Mekonnen, told Amiko that Lake Tana's monasteries, churches, natural and cultural heritage are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He said the tourism bureau, in collaboration with the Federal Heritage Authority, has been working to register Lake Tana and its monasteries, churches, natural and cultural heritage with UNESCO.

 

According to UNESCO, Lake Tana's monasteries and churches, as well as its cultural and natural heritage, are among the World Heritage Sites.

 

According to Ermias, the UNESCO World Heritage Site has been approved and registered temporarily.

 

He also said that when heritage is registered with an international institution, it will be protected, recognized around the world and made a source of wealth.

 

He also said that the biodiversity of Lake Tana will be preserved and passed on to future generations.

 

He said the monasteries and churches of Lake Tana will be registered as a World Heritage Site in a manner that respects their religious rites and respects Ethiopian values. He also said that he is in the process of registering permanently.

 

He called on institutions, celebrities and others to support the ongoing efforts to register the monument.

 

He also said that the monument is a religious, historical and cultural institution.
