Ato Demeke Mekonen discussed with the US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa

Addis Ababa: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonen had a discussion with Mike Hamer, the US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.

Ato Demeke explained to the special envoy the steps the government is taking to ensure lasting peace.

He said the government is committed to the peace efforts initiated by former Nigerian President Olisegun Obasanjo under the leadership of the African Union.

Ato Demeke Mekonen stated that the government has established a negotiating team to show its commitment to the peace negotiations.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs explained to the Special Envoy that the cease-fire agreement, the availability of unlimited humanitarian aid and the measures being taken to hold accountable those who have committed human rights violations continue.

While the government is showing its full commitment to the peace negotiations, the TPLF group's position on the contrary is creating an obstacle in the movement led by the African Union to bring lasting peace, so the international community should put pressure on the group.

Mike Hamer, the US special envoy for the Horn of Africa, praised the government's measures to bring lasting peace.

The information we got from the spokesperson's office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that the change that is being seen in the access to humanitarian aid is encouraging.
