A renewable energy project that will benefit more than 15 thousand citizens was announced

 

October 1/2015 (Walta) It was announced that a renewable energy project that will benefit more than 15 thousand citizens who are managed by agriculture at a cost of more than 20 million dollars.

 

In Ethiopia, the Global Energy Alliance's first accessible renewable energy for people and space project was launched.

 

Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Etefa (PhD), who spoke at the launch of the tax, said that access to electricity is essential for health, education, drinking water supply, energy use, industrial expansion and climate change prevention.

 

The minister said that more than 50 percent of citizens do not have access to electricity.

 

Accessible renewable energy for agriculture project is a project based on renewable energy and it goes along with the national electrification program, he said.

 

The Accessible Renewable Energy for Agriculture project is said to be implemented in four sites in the Oromia region, three sites in the Amhara region, one site in the Sidama region and one site in the southern region.

 

The project will provide electricity, clean water and street lights to more than 15,000 people, and it has been stated that it will enable the conversion of diesel-powered pumps that irrigate 1,500 hectares to electricity.

 

The pilot project will be launched with 20.5 million US dollars from the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet and the African Development Bank, according to the Ministry's information.
