Ethiopia's destiny and future opportunity are highly tied with the Red Sea and the Nile, it was said.
President Sahle-Work Zewde stated that Ethiopia, being located between the Nile and the #Red_Sea, has its destiny and future opportunity highly tied with the two waters.
President Sahle-Work Zewde said this today, September 26, 2018, in her speech at the opening ceremony of the two councils.
The opening ceremony for the 5th year term of the 6th House of Peoples' Representatives and the House of the Federation was held today.
Speaking at the opening, the President mentioned that the world is in a changing situation and that our continent, Africa, as well as our country, Ethiopia, cannot remain outside of this cycle.
They stated, "In this world reality, to maintain peace and security, we must have active participation in international, continental, and regional issues, as well as exert peaceful influence."
The President indicated that for this, four issues will be prioritized.
They said the first is ensuring national security that places the citizen at the center.
"Our national security not only involves protecting our borders but also includes safeguarding the security and dignity of our citizens," the President stated.
They mentioned that the security and dignity of Ethiopians anywhere is a matter of national security and that it is necessary to ensure that citizens' rights are protected legally and their access to job opportunities is guaranteed.
Secondly, they said, "Ethiopia is a country located between the Nile and the Red Sea. Its destiny and future opportunity are highly tied with the two waters." However, President Sahle-Work stated that Ethiopia has remained sidelined in an unfair manner, without following justice, and without involving and centering the people.
