More than 514 million dollars was earned from the export of fruit and vegetable products

 

Addis Ababa, The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that 514.1 million dollars has been earned from the export of fruit and vegetable products in nine months.

 

The ministry announced in its nine-month report that in the last nine months of 2015 fiscal year, 215,884.75 tons of horticulture products were exported, earning 514.1 million dollars.

 

According to the information of the ministry, when looking at the type of product, 444 million dollars was obtained from flower production and 70.3 million dollars from vegetable and fruit production.

 

It was also pointed out in the report that various works have been done to increase export trade in terms of volume and income.

 

The ministry announced in the report that the performance of nine months in the horticulture sector showed a 15.7 percent increase in income compared to the same period last year.

 

EPD reported that the favorable distribution of rains in most regions during the harvest period allowed the 2014/15 harvest crop to be obtained in good condition due to the fact that it was able to be used properly for farming.

 

The report also pointed out that lack of availability of pre- and post-harvest mechanization equipment, lack of disease-resistant crop technologies, plant disease, lack of strong manpower and logistics structure in the regions are challenges in crop and horticulture development.
