Ethiopia officially joins the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) today.

 

The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has announced that later today, various products will begin to be formally exported to different African countries by land and air, following an official ceremony.

 

Wendimu Filate, the Communications Affairs Executive of the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, confirmed this.

 

He stated that meat, vegetable, and fruit products will be exported to various African countries via air transport.

 

This trade exchange was noted to focus on countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.

 

Regarding land transport, it has been stated that coffee, oilseeds, and pulses will be exported to Kenya, Somalia, and South Africa.

 

It was mentioned that Ethiopia has been making extensive preparations to implement the AfCFTA.

 

It has been stated that a committee led by the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has been established and is operational to implement the trade process.

 

The committee is reported to include the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Revenues, the Customs Commission, the National Bank, the Ethiopian Investment Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, the Ministry of Industry, and representatives from the private sector.
