The new vehicle license plate issuance system unveiled today was stated to allow prominent individuals or organizations to have plates printed in the format they desire.
This is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
The vehicle license plate, which was said to have had numerous problems, has been changed.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics, which provided a statement on the matter, recalled that the current license plate has been in service for the past 23 years since 1994.
Explaining the detailed reasons necessitating the change of the plate, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, stated that the type, production, and distribution of the plates provided under the previous transport proclamation do not align with the service delivery requirements of the current era.
The Minister, who mentioned that the service delivery did not keep pace with the sector's growth, also indicated that it is not compatible with the international standards that Ethiopia has accepted and ratified.
However, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, stated that the new plate is designed to ensure user satisfaction, operates based on international agreements, and is prepared in a way that prevents counterfeiting or contractual disputes.
Furthermore, it was announced that the production, distribution, delivery, and consistency of the new vehicle license plate are supported by technology.
The new license plate is uniform at the national level, and it is said this will eliminate the profiling that previously occurred based on where a vehicle came from.
