The service stated that action has been taken against 120 leaders and workers who committed ethical violations.

The Ethiopian Electricity Service stated that it has taken various measures against 120 leaders and workers who were found to be following corrupt practices and committing ethical violations in relation to service delivery.

Hbrework Yemenu, director of anti-corruption and ethics of the institution, said that the action was taken based on complaints from customers during service delivery.

The director stated that work is being done to establish a transparency and accountability system. In the 2014 fiscal year, the service received 145 suggestions by creating a comfortable environment for customers to submit suggestions.

Accordingly, they announced that appropriate and instructive measures have been taken for the offenses committed by holding the management and employees responsible for violating the ethical rules and operating systems of the institution.

The head stated that various administrative measures were taken against 120 of them based on the suggestions submitted to 221 management and employees. He pointed out that the remaining 101 suggestions are being considered by the institution's disciplinary committee.

Examples of malpractice reported by customers include illegal meter installation, soliciting bribes, exaggerating customers, delaying work for no reason, forcing customers to contribute money for emergency repairs, and accepting meter installation payments without receipt.

He also stated that various administrative measures were taken against a total of 1,500 managers and employees who did not comply with the internal operating system set by the institution and committed ethical violations, including suggestions from customers during the fiscal year.

These are 27 verbal warnings, 356 written warnings, 568 salary/monetary penalties, 24 dismissals and 75 dismissals, according to the information we received from the Ethiopian Electric Service.

Realizing that establishing transparency and accountability in service delivery is an unavoidable issue, the service calls on customers to do their part by exposing corrupt practices and enforcing their rights legally.
