Cristiano Ronaldo's absence from regular lineup introduces new Portugal stars

Addis Ababa, Cristiano Ronaldo's absence from the permanent lineup in the Switzerland game has given the opportunity for new Portuguese stars to be recognized on the stage.

In Portugal's 6-1 win over Switzerland last night, coach Fernando Santos left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and replaced Benefica's striker Gonzalo Ramos.

What made the coach's tactics effective was the fact that 21-year-old forward Gonzalo Ramos, who entered the field instead of Ronaldo, scored a hat-trick in the World Cup and made Portugal easily pass to the quarter-finals.

According to BBC Sport's analysis, Portugal easily defeated the Swiss players who focused on Ronaldo and coach Fernando Santos made a lineup change.
