The Election Board is conducting consultations with stakeholders regarding the referendum

 

October 1/2015 (Walta) The National Election Board of Ethiopia is holding consultations with stakeholders regarding the referendum to be held in the Southern Nations and People's Region.

 

Political party representatives, academics and other relevant parties including the chairman of the Ethiopian National Election Board Birtukan Mideksa attended the consultation which will be held for two consecutive days.

 

An operational plan is being consulted regarding the implementation of the referendum to be held in the region.

 

The chairperson of the board said that the Federation Council has given approval to hold a referendum in 6 zones and five special districts based on public demand.

 

The board stated that it is ready to carry out the responsibilities that are expected to be carried out in accordance with the laws and procedures of the referendum.

 

The referendum will be implemented in Gamo, Gedo, Gofa, Konso, South Omo and Wolaita zones as well as in Ale, Amaro, Basketo, Burji and Derashe special districts, ESA recalled in the report.

 

The initial plan is to start the voter registration for the referendum on December 06, 2015, and it has been indicated that the voting and results will be announced from January 1, 2015 to January 22, 2015.
