Following Ethiopia's completion of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, it will officially begin trading goods as of Meskerem 29, 2018 (Ethiopian Calendar), it was stated.

This was stated by the State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Ms. Yasmin Wohabrebi, in a briefing she gave to journalists.

It was also announced that the first trade exchange will be conducted with countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Initially, they stated that trade will be conducted by sending meat, vegetables, and fruits via Ethiopian Airlines Cargo; and coffee, textile products, and oil seeds to Kenya, Somalia, and South Africa by land transport.

The State Minister, who stated that the implementation of the continental free trade agreement will bring significant economic benefits to Ethiopia, explained that it will stimulate Ethiopia's trade competitiveness and investment, and create wide job opportunities.

They added that it will provide consumers with better choices of product supplies.

They also emphasized the need to modernize customs procedures and maintain the quality of products.
