Ethiopia is working to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050 - PM Abiy
Addis Ababa, January 8, 2015 (FBC) Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that Ethiopia has set a goal to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Prime Minister Abiy delivered a message at the 15th Abu Dhabi International "Sustainability" Conference, which advises on sustainable economic growth and climate change.
In his message, he explained that Ethiopia is doing many things to reduce climate change.
The Prime Minister, who mentioned that Ethiopia is the owner of renewable energy, said that it is currently generating energy from water, wind, sun and steam.
Based on this potential resource, Ethiopia is working hard to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050.
They mentioned that in the last four years, Ethiopia has started the Green Footprint program, involving 25 million citizens and planting 25 billion saplings.
This is considered to avoid the polluted air that 64 million gas-powered vehicles emit into the atmosphere for about a year.
He said that in order to continue Ethiopia's economic growth, the government has issued a 10-year development plan and is working with focus.
He further stated that the country's economy will be led by the private sector, and it is working to build an industry-based economy that is competitive, resource-efficient and impervious to the effects of climate change.
