Addis Ababa, the 17th Internet Management Conference asked Federal Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to prepare "realistic and practical" ideas.
Prime Minister Abiy attended the International Internet Management Conference hosted by Ethiopia and delivered a message.
In his message, he said that Ethiopia's information technology and digital transformation journey is accompanied by key development journeys in line with the five sub-themes of the 17th Internet Governance Summit.
He also said that internet coverage in Ethiopia will increase from 19 million users in 2017 to 30 million in 2022.
He said the deployment of 4G network in densely populated cities and 5G network in big cities is speeding up connectivity.
He said that 2,300 high schools across the country have internet access.
In his speech, the Prime Minister said that the past four years have been years of trials and opportunities for Ethiopia.
They challenged the fact that the Internet was used to spread false information during the Northern War; During the covid 19 pandemic, he listed the opportunity brought by enabling government and commercial institutions to provide their services online to encourage new innovations.
They pointed out that as a developing country, Ethiopia recognizes that the internet will bring good opportunities to it in its journey to prosperity.
They also mentioned that two years ago, Ethiopia implemented a national digital strategy that set a unified vision on its journey towards an inclusive digital economy.
The strategy focuses on developing infrastructure, enabling systems, building digital platforms and digital ecosystems, he said.
In an effort to ensure security and accountability, the government has taken various measures to strengthen national cyber security institutions, he said.
He pointed out that in addition to protecting the country's cyber environment, these institutions are working to raise awareness among citizens on related issues.
He said that the Ethiopian government has realized the benefits of artificial intelligence and is committed to using the new technology for national development.
He said in the forum that we have established research and development institutes related to artificial intelligence.
He also mentioned the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Institute that is committed to working on Ethiopia's national interest and competitiveness through the development of services, products and solutions.
He said that the institute is currently working on health, education, agriculture, transportation and public protection and safety in various fields.
On the other hand, he said, we must influence African countries in a way that is consistent with our values and at a level that allows us to participate in new technologies.
That is why we say that the focus should be on building trust, fairness and security in the cyberspace.
