Tiya plant stone - another imprint of Ethiopians

………………………

Tia plant stone is located in Tia city. The city is a small town located 86 kilometers away from Addis Ababa in Sodo District of Gurage Zone in the Southern Nations Regional Government.

Tia is known throughout the country and internationally for its historical sites, Tia Plant Stone Museum. This heritage site is located on a flat plain about 400 meters to the left of Tia town on the road from Addis Ababa to Butajra.

Thia Zoo is home to 41 to 48 plant stones placed at different distances. The plant stones are mostly flat but some are oval in shape.

On the plant stones, there are signs carved and hatched with artistic skill, the meanings of which are not known for the time being. The plant stones are shaped like a bull's horn, a cross and a sword, and the tallest among the plant stones is five meters.

In the 15th century, the explorers and travelers who visited the Mekan heritage in the books they wrote after their visit testified that Ethiopia is the owner of unique megalithic history and culture in its southern part. This testimony attracted the attention of other researchers, and in 1966, French archaeologists came to Ethiopia and opened the door for scientific registration of artifacts.

He was instrumental in giving it a special place in UNESCO.

Due to the fact that the Tiya plant stone became known for its historicity, in 1972 it was registered as an international heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization / UNESCO.

In order to answer the question of who built the zoo and why, a skeleton was found under each stone of the plant during research and excavation. The plants and stones were found to be symbols of the dead as monuments.

According to laboratory tests, the stones were erected between the 12th and 14th centuries. The wonderful ancient works of art on the plant stone are traces of history that indicate the types of tools used by the contemporary people and their creativity. However, there is still no clue as to how the wonderful artistic symbols on the stones can be interpreted in terms of spiritual or worldly symbolism. The skeletons of men, women and children were found in the graves, and more than one human skeleton was found in one grave. The reason why some of the stones did not fall down for many years, according to the researchers who studied the shape, is because they are eight meters long underground.

The Tia Museum heritage is different from other plant and stone museum heritage mainly because of the content of the plant stones and the art of making the museum.
