According to the plan to reorganize the southern nations and peoples region, the zones and special districts in the region are accepting and approving the decision to be restructured as a new region.

In order to restructure the region, 10 zones and 6 councils of special districts approved the decision to divide the current southern region into two administrations in their meetings held last weekend.

It is expected that Wolayta, South Omo, Gofa, Konso and Gamo zones as well as Amaro, Ale, Burji, Basketo and Derashe special districts will be organized to form a region.

On the other hand, Hadiya, Halaba, Gurage, Silete and Kenbata Tenbaro zones are planned to form another independent regional government together with the special district.

It is said that although the zones and special districts in the region have received and approved the request to be set up as a new region, it is said that the Gurage zone has not been advised on the issue yet.

Ato Feqadu Zeleke, the head of the Gurage Zone government's communication and media team, told Bisrat Radio that the zone is awaiting a response to the Federation Council's request to be set up as a region.

"The demand of the people is to be organized as a region. We have submitted this to the Federation Council and we are waiting for the response," he said. He added that the council has not yet discussed the new arrangement.

The group leader said that the council has not held the meeting yet and it is not known when the next discussion will be held. In this regard, they said that the social zone has approved the cluster structure and on the other hand it has not been approved and the information being circulated is wrong.

This is intended to put pressure on the leaders of the zone, the head of the communication and media group told Bisrat Radio.
