The Minister of Water and Energy discussed with the Ambassador of the Netherlands and the Permanent Representative of the African Union, IGAD and UNECA in Ethiopia.

 

Addis Ababa, September 2022 The Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. Engineer Habtamu Itefa, discussed with the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ethiopia and the Permanent Representative of the African Union, IGAD and UNECA, Jan Baker.

 

The discussion focused on Ethiopia's need for support at the United Nations Water Conference to be held in New York in March 2023 and the water financing system proposed by "Water for All", a non-profit organization that works on water.

 

Regarding the water conference, the minister, Engineer Habtamu, indicated that based on the key performance indicators included in the ministry's 10-year strategic plan, Ethiopia will deliver the water conference at the intergovernmental organization.

 

He stated that efforts to be made on water supply and environmental sanitation projects in the next 10 years will be reflected in the conference and he also pointed out that sustainable water resources management and development initiatives including the Green Footprint Initiative will be raised in the conference.

 

On the other hand, the managing director of Aquaforol, Josin Slujis, made a presentation focusing on the financing of water and sanitation projects by private financial institutions.

 

The information we received from the Ministry of Water and Energy indicates that after the discussion on the issue, a consensus has been reached to establish a task force consisting of the top leaders of the Ministry of Water and Energy and the Embassy of the Netherlands, which will discuss the proposal and make a decision.
