 "It's an overwhelming problem. We can't live. We don't have electricity three or four days a week" - complainant 

 

 "The problem will be solved before winter, be patient" - Ethiopian Electricity Service 

 

Residents living in Addis Ababa City's Summit Court, Summit Safari, Summit Pepsi Factory, Fyeal Bet, Woji Sefer, Sunrise Real Estate, Flint Stone Homes and Goro Michael told Tikvah Ethiopia that the frequent power outages in the area have left them in great distress. 

 

Residents of the area, especially the Flintstone Twin communal housing village, said, "Since November 02/03/2017, we are in trouble without getting electricity day and night," even though they informed the Ethiopian Electricity Service East Addis Ababa Region by letter, "We have no one to give us a solution." 

 

The Ethiopian Electricity Service, on the other hand, posted an article on its social media page asking its customers to wait patiently for the power supply to be restored, stating that the cause of the power outage in the area is due to the damage and theft of the underground power lines. 

 

What do residents say in detail? 

 

"It's an overwhelming problem. We can't live. We don't have electricity three or four days a week. If it does, it's only at night, then it goes off again. It's hard for us to live. 

 

There are patients; There are people who need refrigerators and moreover we are forced to throw away food because of the high cost of living. 

 

Between November 18th and December 9th, power was cut off five times due to repeated road works when an underground line was hit by an excavator. 

 

It should not have been created, preventive measures should have been taken, but after it happened, it should not have been created repeatedly, and there should have been accountability. 

 

But after December 10th, once it hit, the power went out from 18:00 to 3 days, after which the outages got worse and there were times when we only got power for 25 minutes in a 24-hour period. 

 

The biggest one is 4 hours, which is between midnight and dawn.
