A welcome reception for the athletes is being held at the National Palace to mark the triumphant victory of the 18th World Athletics Championships held in Oregon, USA.
The program was attended by various senior government officials, including Federi President Sahlework Zewde.
Prizes ranging from 50 thousand birr to 2.5 million birr were given to the athletes and other members of the delegation who scored a decisive victory in the 18th World Athletics Championship.
She was awarded 1.5 million birr for winning the first gold in the 10 thousand meter race on Sunday and 500 thousand birr for her effective team work in the 5 thousand meter race, for a total of 2 million birr.
In addition, athlete Goitetom Gebreslase, who won the gold medal in the women's marathon, and Tamrat Tola, who won the gold medal in the men's marathon, were each awarded 1 million 750 thousand birr.
Gudaf Tsagai, who won a silver medal in 1,500 meters and a gold medal in 5,000 meters, was awarded 2.5 million birr in a special way.
Mossnat, who finished second in the men's marathon and won a silver medal, was surprised to receive 1 million birr, 1 million birr was awarded to Warkwa Gethechu, who won a silver medal in the 3,000 obstacle course, and 1 million birr to Mecha Girma, who won a silver medal in the 3,000 obstacle course.
A prize of 700,000 birr was given to the athletes who won the bronze medal in the championship.
The award was presented by the President of the Federation, Sahlework Zewde, and the Minister of Culture and Sports, Ato Kejela Merdasa.
