Ato Demeke called on member countries to strengthen their cooperation on the fair use of the Nile Basin
Addis Ababa, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ato Demeke Mekonen called on the member countries of the Nile Basin to strengthen their cooperation on fair and reasonable use.
The first high-level cooperation conference of the upper member states of the Nile Basin has started in Addis Ababa.
Ato Demeke Mekonen, in his message at the official opening of the conference, called on the member countries of the river basins to strengthen their cooperation for fair and reasonable use.
Scholars, influencers and journalists have also been asked to contribute in their profession to use the Nile River fairly.
He said that since the Nile River is being affected by climate change, all member countries should play their part in protecting the safety of the river.
He said that the start of generating electricity from the Great Renaissance Dam is not only important for Ethiopia but also regionally.
The conference was attended by researchers, former ministers, journalists and influential people from upstream member countries.
