#Ethiopia International model Saddam Qasim recently won the international modeling competition held in the Philippines.
Model Saddam Qasim was born and raised in Shifa town of Korey district in Western RC.
"I've been interested in modeling since I was a child. Coming to Finland gave me a great opportunity to practice and learn about things like fashion," he said.
He is currently gaining recognition for his acting career in music videos as well as appearing on fashion platforms.
He recently won the 'Man of the Globe International Pageant' modeling competition and won trophies and cash prizes.
"I was the only black model to win the grand prize for the first time. It's not like Ethiopia, it's like Africa," he says of his win.
"I've passed many of you . . ."
"Modeling is about promoting and selling a product, whether you're wearing it or holding it," says model Saddam.
However, he said, many people see modeling as a tall, beautiful person living a life of luxury.
He said that he has been modeling for five years and "Everything has not been right for me in these five years. But I have gone through many challenges. I am working at the world level. When he entered the profession, not knowing people in the profession prevented me from getting a job."
“I used to do a lot of volunteer work. I didn't even have money to take a taxi, so I went to a video studio and worked there.
Model Saddam said that he was able to announce his name and the name of his country through many difficulties.
From domestic to international competition platforms
International model Saddam opened the way for various opportunities in the ALI 2010 "Ethiopian Next Top Model" modeling competition with over 100 contestants.
“That arrangement lasted for about a year. I was in the last five of these on it. But the program stopped before we could be rated,” he says.
After the competition, he participated in various commercials and fashion shows and said that Shukri Jamal's 'Amuma' music video made him more famous.
. He was invited to participate in the Man of the Globe International Pageant in February 2022, but said he did not participate for various reasons.
"I couldn't be with him for various reasons. He couldn't get a visa and his finances were poor. It was very difficult for me at the time."
However, this year he had the same opportunity to travel to the Philippines to compete against contestants from different countries.
"I was the only black model to win the Grand Prize for the first time. It's not like Ethiopia, it's like Africa," he says of his win.
He added: “This is a great story for me. It's great for my name and the name of my country," he says.
The Philippines pageant was held in various categories and won the 'Best Photogenic', 'Best Formal Wear' and Grand Winner categories.
“I brought Oromo traditional clothes from RC and competed with them. On it, I introduced the history of my country and the tourist attractions of the Bale mountains,” he says.
"It will give me a great opportunity to find different jobs on an international level," said Saddam, a model who has signed a one-year contract as the program's ambassador for next year.

Along with his modeling career, Saddam, a model who studied hotel management, said that he took acting and directing lessons, including modeling.
It also organizes the 'One Africa Fashion Show' every year.
He said that the event has been held for the past two years and this year it will be held after a few months.
He said he plans to expand his fashion show to the African level.
When asked about his future plans, Model Saddam said, "I have a strong desire to promote the language and culture of Oromia and Ethiopia, especially tourism, at the international level." I believe I will work hard in the future.”
